How to Measure your Pet
Your big dog needs some big duds, but how do you know what size to order? Below are some tips and a measurement guide to help select the perfect size.
While there are no standard sizes for dog clothing, most of the products we carry are measured by the length of your dog's back. Using a flexible tape, measure from the base of the neck (where the collar rests) to the base of the tail (where it attaches to their body ). This number determines the length of the back and is the most common measurement in dog apparel.
The neck and chest measurements may be taken into account as well. To determine your pup's neck size, measure around their neck with a tape measure, and then add just enough room for their comfort. The chest measurement should be taken at the largest point on your pup which is typically right behind the front legs. If your pup has a particularly stout or portly chest (treat hound...ha!), or if their measurement falls between sizes, we recommend selecting the next larger size. It is more comfy for your pet to have a little "wiggle room" than to have the item be too tight and restrictive.
Many times people ask what size their pet should wear based solely on breed. It is not reliable to purchase items based on your pet's breed or weight. Every pup is different, and your dog may be more or less "portly" than the average size for their breed. The most accurate way to ensure a proper fit is to measure.
Here at Dane Bryant Dogs, we are thrilled to work with the finest designers of pet apparel available. Please note that each designer has their own set of sizes and measurements. To avoid confusion we have included the specific sizing information on each individual product page.
Please make sure to refer to the specific product page for accurate sizing information.
